Synthetic or natural hair wig can be washed by hand. Machine wash, not even in a special mesh bag.
How often the strands have to be processed is influenced by several factors:
- Hair type: Natural curls get dirty faster.
- Humidity: the higher it is, the faster the wig gets dirty.
- Length: short strands need to be treated less often than long curls.
How to clean at home?
The rules of care and the algorithm for cleaning a wig at home depend on the material from which it is made.
Natural hair
The rules for washing natural strands are similar to the principles of caring for your own hair:
- Before washing, the curls must be carefully combed with a comb with sparse teeth.
- Prepare warm water.
- Moisten a wig, lather it with a mild shampoo.
- Wash gently, paying special attention to the areas of the forehead, temples, nape.
- Rinse off the lather with a gentle pressure of water from the shower head, moving from the roots to the ends of the hair.
- Apply balm. Its use is necessary for softening, removing static electricity, restoring hair structure.
- Leave on for 10-15 minutes, rinse.
- Pat dry the wig with a towel. You cannot twist, pull, rub the strands!
- Dry unfolded on a dry towel. You can use a warm hairdryer to speed up the process. But it can damage the original styling.
Wash your wig preferably in soft water. To do this, you can boil it or add a little baking soda.
From artificial
Synthetic wig care depends on the quality of the material used.
Vinyl, acrylic, polyamide
Such curls are very moody, quickly get dirty, tangle, split at the ends. The head in such a wig sweats quickly, which causes an unpleasant odor.
You need to wash such curls in the same way as natural ones:
- moisten gently in warm water;
- soap, rinse well;
- rinse under running water;
- conditioner, squeeze, dry well.
The use of a hair dryer, curling iron, ironing is prohibited.
Kanekalon and thermal fiber
These are better materials. Hair looks natural, retains its shape and volume well. They are elastic, easy to comb, do not get confused.
It is better to process such products in boiled water:
- A little shampoo for dry hair should be diluted in the basin.
- Soak the patch for 10 minutes.
- Carefully process the strands along the entire length, paying attention to the frontal, temporal and occipital zones.
- Rinse under cold running water.
- Dissolve conditioner for brittle hair in a basin of water. Leave the wig on for 20 minutes.
- Pat dry hair gently with a soft towel. The balm does not need to be washed off.
- Dry.
How to remove shine from synthetic strands?
Cheap shine of synthetic strands spoils the whole impression of the look... This disadvantage is typical for curls made of acrylic, vinyl or polyamide, but it is also found in more expensive products made of thermal fiber or kanekalon.
A special impregnation gives the hair shine, which manufacturers use to add volume, fix the hairstyle, and protect against tangling.
To remove it:
- The strands must be soaked for 12 hours in a solution with any conditioner for delicates (Lenor, Meine Liebe, BioMio). Then squeeze out (without rinsing), dry well.
- A more gentle method is treatment with dry shampoo, powder or dusting powder. Using a large brush, apply the product over the entire length of the hair, comb it out, shake off the excess. This method is suitable for both white, light and dark hair.
To remove shine from an artificial wig, you can use professional care products: shampoos, foams, mousses, balms.
How to dry?
Artificial or natural strands are best dried naturally by placing them horizontally on a soft, dry towel.
After the water has drained, to maintain its shape, the wig must be put on a special stand or on a jar.It is prohibited to dry curls in the wind, frost or in the open sun.
It will be possible to use the pad after washing not earlier than after 10-12 hours. This is how much time it takes for high-quality drying.
If the curls are deformed during washing or drying, you should not try to do the styling yourself. It is better to seek help from professional hairdressers.
How to comb and style after washing?
Only dry hair can be brushed... Wet curls are easily deformed, stretched, styling deteriorates.
For combing, choose a wooden comb with sparse teeth (distance 4–5 mm). You can restore splendor to short hair with a massage brush.
Curls and tight curls are best handled: gently walk your fingers along the entire length.
If you follow all the rules, after washing, styling on artificial or natural hair will remain.
For curling straight strands, do not use a curling iron or iron. In order not to damage the hair structure, you can use conventional curlers:
- you need to wet your hair, divide it into strands, wind it;
- let dry naturally, without a hair dryer;
- lay, secure with varnish.
